  • Introduction: General information on the topic
    Give your listeners an introduction to the topic (some general information) and explain what exactly you are going to talk about in your presentation.
  • Actual Presentation
    Subdivide your presentation into several sub-topics.
  • Conclusion
    Try to find a good conclusion, e.g.:
    • an invitation to act
    • an acknowledgement
    • a motivation

Tips on Giving a Presentation

Parenthesis

The normal progression of a sentence is interrupted by extra information or explanations enclosed in commas, brackets or dashes. The extra information can be a single word, a phrase or even a sentence.

Examples:

  • We (myself, wife Jessie and daughters Wanda and Jennifer) boarded our boat 'Queen', a Duchess class vessel barely a year old, at Black Prince Holidays' Chirk boatyard.
  • The boats have remarkably few controls and we were given a thorough briefing about 'driving' ours–along with advice on mooring, lock operation and safety considerations–by Kate, who even set off with us for a few minutes to ensure we were confident.

Leading a discussion

Der Leiter einer Diskussion/eines Meetings hat eine wichtige Rolle. Er muss sowohl den Verlauf der Sitzung kontrollieren als auch lenken.
 
Im Folgenden stellen wir acht goldene Regeln für eine gelungene Diskussionsleitung vor:

 

1.) Make sure participants understand the goals of the meeting and of each item to be discussed.
 
It is important to state clearly the main goals and to define each item of the agenda at the start of the meeting.

 

2.) Keep to the agenda.
 
It is necessary to stop people speaking off the topic and bring the discussion back to the agreed topic.
